The first Wimbledon took place in 1877 and was held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, where the game is still played today. Out of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments that take place around the world annually, Wimbledon is the only significant tournament that is still played on outdoor courts.
The other Grand Slam tournaments are the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open.
These days, Wimbledon is held on the first Monday of July and runs for two weeks. The most exciting part for many is the men’s and women’s single finals, which take place on the last Saturday and Sunday of the event.
