Fit Australian mother says mothers should pose in bikinis to get fit

Queensland fitness addict Sharny Kieser says middle-aged mums can get their sexy bodies back by posing for glamour shoots in bikinis.

Personal trainer and author Sharny โ€“ who describes herself as a โ€œrenegade fitness expertโ€ on her website โ€“ says middle-aged mothers can really benefit from seeing themselves in sexy swimsuit pictures post-weightless because it will inspire them to maintain their diet and exercise.

โ€œIt opens up their subconscious and reminds them that anything is possible and they start to find themselves,โ€ she told the Herald Sun.

The mother-of-four says too many women give up on their fitness goals once they enter motherhood and insists that images in a skimpy two-piece can remind them of the body they can have.

โ€œMost women have given up on wearing a bikini by the time they become mums, so itโ€™s great achieving something they had never thought possible,โ€ she said.

Sharny, 34, found herself in hot water earlier this year when she had a war of words with radio announcer and former Jenny Craig ambassador, Chrissie Swan who took offence to Kieserโ€™s comments about fat people being lazy.

The tense interview went from bad to worse after Kieser answered yes to Swanโ€™s question โ€œWould you say that I am lazy?โ€

โ€œYou have been, but I have seen you change from being lazy to getting into exercise as well, so Iโ€™ve seen you change that mindset,โ€ Kieser went on to say.

Swan retorted: โ€œSo you think raising three children and working sometimes 14 hours a day is lazy?โ€

Kieser said: โ€œI think that not fitting in exercise and not being active with your kids and trying to teach them a healthy lifestyle is definitely not the right way to go, yeah.โ€

As the author of FAT kids: help your child to escape the obesity epidemic โ€“ which sells for $1 on Amazon โ€“ Kieser has faced criticism from detractors who say she is only focusing on vein ideals of fitness and not overall health and well-being.

Physiotherapist and pilates instructor Becky Dyer, of Body Beyond Birth, told news.com.au she doesnโ€™t โ€œtalk much about the way people lookโ€.

โ€œWe talk about being strong. Being strong is a lot more important than rocking a bikini,โ€ she said.

โ€œEveryone deserves to look great and feel great and they donโ€™t need to be in a bikini to do this,โ€ Ms Dyer said.

However, Kieser says getting dolled up for a glamour shot is only empowering for women.

โ€œPeople might think itโ€™s superficial but it gives a woman a whole new level of strength, and they inspire those around them,โ€ she said.  โ€œItโ€™s not about what you look like, itโ€™s the process of achieving your goal.โ€

Queensland based Kieser is currently pregnant with her fifth child due in July.
