Coco Rocha: “We’re all real women”

Coco Rocha

The 26-year-old Canadian model has expressed her dislike of the terms, ‘plus-size model’ and ‘real women’ to the Huffington Post, saying she doesn’t like people labelling models.

“I have spoken out on the whole subject of plus-size models — I don’t even like a title: petite, short, high fashion, runway. It should all just be in one genre, it’s just a model,” the pregnant model said. “Even when they say ‘real women.’ I hate that too. We’re all real. When someone tells me that I’m not real, I say to them, ‘Well, what about me isn’t real?’ I have not changed my figure. This is who I am.”

Coco’s comments come just a week after Calvin Klein sparked a debate with their new underwear campaign. Model Myla Dalbesio, who is labelled plus-size in the industry, was considered by many on social media to be ‘healthy’ and an ‘average woman’.

Yet, Coco is not the only one to express her hate for the tag ‘plus-size’.

Australian model Robyn Lawley recently told The Weekly: “I have been saying for years, let’s just get rid of the label because it’s causing regular people who aren’t in the fashion world to look at my body and say, ‘Well if she is plus-size, what does that make me?'”
