The last 25 months have seen actress Shannen Doherty experience round after round of chemotherapy, as well as countless radiation treatments in a bid to kill the cancer cells that had spread throughout her body.

And while some days have certainly been harder than others for 46-year-old – a fact she often shares on her very open and honest Instagram feed – Shannen’s fortune has finally taken a turn in the right direction.

That’s because Shannen is now in remission.

“What does remission mean?” she wrote on her Instagram page. “I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES.”

And while the star is overcome with happiness over her cancer remission status, she does admit that the next five years of her life are “crucial”.

“Reoccurrences happen all the time,” she writes.

“Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait.”

“In the meantime, decisions.”

“Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects…”

“I am blessed, I know that. But for now…. remission. I’m going to just breathe. #cancerslayer”

As previously reported by Woman’s Day, the Charmed alum revealed her diagnosis with breast cancer and, sadly, since then, the cancer spread to her lymphatic system.

Standing by her side during this tough time has been her husband-of-five-years Kurt Iswarienko and her mum Rosa Elizabeth Doherty.

“The unknown is always the scariest part,” she previously told ET.

“Is the chemo going to work? Is the radiation going to work?”

“You know, am I going to have to go through this again, or am I going to get secondary cancer?”

“Everything else is manageable. Pain is manageable, you know living without a breast is manageable, it’s the worry of your future and how your future is going to affect the people that you love.”
