Remember when having a first baby at 30 was considered leaving things a little late? Those days are well and truly gone.
A new report confirms that the average age of all Australian women giving birth in a given year is now 30.1 years, up from 29 years a decade ago.
A report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare also shows a definite reduction in the number of women giving birth before the age of 25.
The average age of first-time motherhood has also risen, to 28.6 years.
The AIHW reports tracks pregnancies, birth weight and the health of Australian mothers and their babies.
It shows a reduction in the number of women smoking during pregnancy, and it shows than one-in-five Australian babies are born to mums over the age of 35.
More than 300,000 babies were born in Australia in 2013, and one-third of those were delivered by caesarian section.
