In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight the former Charmed star has candidly revealed that she’ll continue breastfeeding until her daughter is six.
Responding to the backlash she receives for posting the intimate photos, the actress defiantly explained, “I don’t care, I’m going to keep breastfeeding, maybe until she’s six.”
The 42-year-old then compared Miley Cyrus’ racy VMA’s outfits to her breastfeeding snaps on social media, “Everyone’s fine with [Miley’s] nipples being out, but if I post a picture of me breastfeeding it’s craziness,” she said.
She added: “I think people are more comfortable sexualising breasts, than relating them to what they were made for, which is feeding another human.”
This isn’t the first time Alyssa has been outspoken about breastfeeding, in April she took to Twitter to reveal her dismay after pre-pumped breastmilk was confiscated at London’s Heathrow Airport.
“Just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces [295mL]. Gone. Not okay,” she fumed online.
Alyssa proudly documents her breastfeeding moments with her almost 500,000 Instagram followers.
Before continuing: “They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????”
The doting mum was soon met with an outpouring of support and later told People, “I think that breastfeeding mums feel like what they do needs to be hidden, or not feel like they’re getting the appreciation that comes along with being a breastfeeding mom, and it meant something that someone was being vocal.
“When I post pictures of me breastfeeding Bella, it’s not that I’m trying to be very outspoken about breastfeeding, it’s that it’s a very special moment in my life.”
