The visually spectacular event – hosted by honorary chairs Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams – will see Hollywood’s finest dazzle in New York for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual benefit, the Met Ball.

The theme for the 2017 Met Gala is Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons.

For non-fashion folk, that pretty much means the glitzy bash’s dress code is Japanese-style avant garde, inspired by the label of renowned designer Rei Kawakubo.

Rei Kawakubo, the genius behind the Japanese fashion house, will be the first living designer since 1983’s Yves Saint Laurent to be the sole subject of Anna Wintour’s beloved fashion exhibit.

The museum’s curator Andrew Bolton mused, “Rei Kawakubo is one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years.”

“By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation, and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.”

No doubt we can expect Tinseltown’s biggest names to push the envelope and give us an absolute sensory feast of wild looks (and a hell of a lot of memes).
