It’s been dubbed Australia’s version of the Oscars and the stars are dressed to impress at the 8th annual AACTA Awards at Sydney’s The Star Event Centre.
Hosted by Stephen Curry, this year is a special one as it will celebrate AFI/AACTA’s 60th anniversary as Australia’s longest standing national screen culture and industry development organisation.
Some of the country’s biggest names are up for awards and will be in attendance including Aussie national treasure Nicole Kidman who’s nominated for her role in drama Boy Erased as well as stars such as Simon Baker, Nash Edgerton, Deborah Mailman and Celia Pacquola.
And the stars aren’t just limited to the nominees, with presenters including Rebecca Gibney, Rodger Corser and Kath and Kim stars Jane Turner, Gina Riley and Magda Szubanski. That’s noice, different and unusual.
Bruce Beresford’s flick Ladies in Black has the most film nominations of the night with a total of 11 while Sweet Country follows with 10, Breath coming in third place with nine and Boy Erased earning seven nominations, including for Kidman for best actress and Lucas Hedges for lead actor.
Mystery Road and Riot lead the way in nominations for TV with 11 each, including lead actor and actress, supporting actor, direction, screenplay, editing and original music score, so the night could be anyone’s.
