Did Meghan Markle just break Royal protocol… AGAIN?!

A little ruffle here, a little lace there…

Just hours ago, the internet went into meltdown mode when Kensington Palace released the most loved-up pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle yet.

And while the smitten couple’s adoration for each other has royalists across the globe sobbing tears of joy into their tea cups (us included), it’s Meghan’s dress that really has our jaws hitting the floor.

But first, just look at that RING!

Not only does Meghan’s frock, which was designed by British-based Australian couturiers Ralph & Russo, come in at just under $100K (!!!) and has sold out online since pictures of Meghan wearing it hit the web, but has the dress itself broken Royal protocol?

Opinions are swirling that Meghan’s choice of semi-sheer lace dress could be a little risqué for a royal-to-be, with the floor-sweeper even being touted as “racier than what we’re used to”. One journalist, Jacquelin Magnay, went as far as to say: “Sheer, expensive, showbiz. Prince Harry’s lass is breaking all the rules!”

While some people are calling Meghan’s dress “stunning”, others are calling it “racy”.

Our opinion? Meghan, and Harry, look as suitably stylish as they do in love.

However, if you think back to two of the biggest Royal fashion rules, Meghan technically has not put a stylish foot out of place; the dress does not show any cleavage, and the lining of the skirt falls to the floor, meaning that she isn’t showing any bare legs.

This sartorial statement, inadvertent or not, cements Meghan’s place, alongside Duchess Catherine, as one Regal style-setter that’s here to be taken seriously. Just days ago, Meghan was pictured wearing another (shoulders-covered) lace number by UK brand Self-Portrait to have a pre-Christmas lunch with the Queen. Since then, the dress has sold out everywhere online.

You can only see the black-and-white-laced detailing of Meghan’s Self-Portrait dress…

…And it STILL sold out online.

You know what, there’s something charming about the ‘rule-breaking’ soon-to-be-wed pair. Prince Harry and Meghan’s engagement has already bent the regal royals with Meghan being invited to attend the royal family’s holiday celebrations despite fiancees not normally being asked to attend in the first place…

We can’t get enough of this modern love.
