Beautiful Brisbane model Madeline Stuart, who has Down syndrome, will walk the runway during New York Fashion Week.
The 18-year-old strawberry blonde model announced the news on her Facebook page, saying: “Guess who is going to be modelling at New York Fashion Week in September. MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!”
New York Fashion Week is the near-unattainable dream of models worldwide. It can open the door to a lucrative career, and provides models with access to the world’s best designers and make-up artists.
Inquisitr reports that Madeline, 18, is only the second model with Down syndrome invited to take part in the fashion event.
“The other, Jamie Brewer of American Horror Story, is one of Madeline’s biggest inspirations,” the site says.
Madeline will model clothes for FTL Moda, which works with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to promote diversity.
On its Facebook page, FTL Moda said: “It is with the utmost joy and pride that we announce Madeline Stuart’s participation in #FTL#NYFW#SS2016 presentation. Beautiful Madeline will brighten up the runway at the#VanderbillHall on September 13, 2015. Stay tuned and RSVP.”
An excited Madeline said: “Exposure is creating awareness, acceptance, and inclusion’ while her Mum, Roseanne, was quoted as saying: “The world wants to be inclusive, it just hasn’t had anyone on such a platform that they were able to do it easily.’
Madeline has previously appeared in national ad campaigns for Manifesta and the eco-friendly handbag label everMaya.
“She loves the camera,” says mum Roseanne.
When Maddy declared she wanted to be a model in May her story went viral.
Maddy says she was inspired to start modelling because she is always pushing herself to try new things.
