Marvel fans thought it was the final time we would see Wolverine with his claws out in 2017 with Logan, but in a shock return, Hugh Jackman is teaming up with Ryan Gosling for a Wolverine & Deadpool movie.
Wolverine first graced the screen in 2000, where his death was shown in the 2017 film. In this near two-decade history in Marvel, Hugh starred in nine films – predominately X-Men – as the Wolverine.
With such a rich history with the supernatural character, it should come as no surprise Hugh wanted to return with the epic Deadpool character.
But as it turns out, the Aussie actor almost didn’t receive the role at all. At the time, Hugh was in the early stages of his career and believed his blew the audition. That was until a young Kevin Fiege – also in the beginning of his career – saw Hugh’s potential and invited him out for dinner.
“I said, ‘Kevin, we all know I’m not getting the part. You don’t have to do dinner,'” Hugh recalled to Entertainment Weekly. “But no, he sat in there and had a steak dinner with me and then drove me to the airport. I’ll never forget it. That was the nicest thing. I thought, I’ll never see him again.”
Despite his doubt, Hugh ultimately landed the role that defined his career.
