Get ready to feel nostalgic, as the original Wiggles are back!
Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page, and Jeff Fatt are hot potatoing over to their new documentary: Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles.
After inspiring generations of children around the world, the documentary will explore how The Wiggles almost didn’t exist.
Did you know that The Wiggles members were originally in a band called The Cockroaches?
Let us set the scene, three university students (Jeff came later) studying to be early childhood educators at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Anthony actually met Jeff through their rock band and after receiving rejection, after rejection by producers… they had an idea. Why not combine their love of kids with music?! And so, The Wiggles were born.
After recording a one-off album themselves in the 90s, it took off. From performing at pubs with adults to playing jam-packed stadiums for children.
Hiding Anthony Field’s tattoos – which at the time wasn’t deemed appropriate for children – with skivvies, creating the iconic Wiggles look we know today.
In fact, they just spontaneously chose the colours at a Sydney department store: Murray red, Jeff purple, Greg yellow, and Anthony originally picked a green shirt. However, this clashed with Dorothy The Dinosaur being green, so Anthony changed to blue years later.
“At first glance, the notion of preschool teachers selling out Madison Square Garden is downright absurd,” said director Sally Aitken.
“What a phenomenal story for a director to unpack: How did a group of teachers become like The Beatles for preschoolers?”
