Dubbing it the โ€˜final sentenceโ€™, Foxtel confirmed this morning that Wentworth would return for the last time on Tuesday August 24th.

In the clip released alongside the announcement we can see Vera, played by Kate Atkinson, bound and gagged hitting a duress alarm in the prison.

As the footage flashes on a big screen, the showโ€™s leading ladies, aka our beloved and loathed prisoners, stand in front.

A warning plays over the footage: โ€œAttention compound, this is a code blackโ€ before a prisoner can be heard asking, โ€œYou got any last words?โ€.

We. Have. CHILLS.

With this sadly confirmed to be the award winning dramaโ€™s final season ever, fans are sure to be in for a wild ride.

However, all may not be completely said and done just yet with talks of a spin-off series recently emerging.

When filming wrapped for the final season last year it didnโ€™t take long for the production site to be dismantled, not long after which the showโ€™s producer, Jo Porter, hinted at some kind of continuation.

โ€œThe Victorian Government have plans for that site, we always had to move out of there this year,โ€ Jo told the Herald Sunโ€™s SMARTdaily.

โ€œBut weโ€™ve relocated sites once before,โ€ she explained, pointing out the first three seasons of the prison drama were filmed in Coburg in Melbourne.

And the jail cell doors certainly havenโ€™t been slammed shut on a possible spin-off.

โ€œNever say never.โ€

โ€œIt feels like this chapter of the show has finished. This season has had a big spike in audience domestically. Weโ€™re getting new audiences all the time.

โ€œThereโ€™s a few characters who survive, there are possibilities but at the moment weโ€™re focusing on this being a beautiful bow to draw a close to this chapter,โ€ Porter hinted of a possible spin-off.
