We discuss the big talking points on TV this week

From the return of The Wrong Girl to the ratings of The Block, here's what has the TV WEEK office talking this week.
Rob Collins and Jessica Marais

1. The Wrong Girl – Right time

We thought we’d be waiting
a while longer to see the return
of Network Ten drama The Wrong
Girl.

But we’re thrilled that it’s back this week.

Can loveable Lily (Jessica Marais) and hot chef Jack (Rob Collins) make a go of it in season two?

You’ve got to admit, these two would make pretty adorable babies.

Also, will Lily be drawn back to her job on The Breakfast Bar? Anything can happen in TV, right?

2. The Block – We want to build, not cook

Thirteen may not be so unlucky after all.

The ratings for the 13th season of home-renovation reality show The Block reveal everyone is tuned in again this winter.

The show is racking up a million or more viewers an episode, proving the series can do no wrong for the Nine Network.

Unfortunately for Network Ten and Channel Seven, Australian Survivor and Hell’s Kitchen Australia aren’t coming close to hitting seven figures, so Block O’Clock may be here to stay.

3. Underbelly Files: Chopper – Arresting viewing

McLeod’s Daughters heart-throb Aaron Jeffery is unrecognisable – and
a little terrifying – as notorious underworld identity Mark “Chopper” Read
in the Nine Network’s upcoming drama, Underbelly Files: Chopper.

In this exclusive first-look photo from the series, the feared crim runs into trouble with the police.

We’re excited to see more of “Uncle Chop Chop” in action.

4. This Time Next Year – Seeing Karl in a new light

Is it just us or are we seeing a softer side to Karl Stefanovic of late?

We’re used to him being a larrikin on Today, and we know he can grill a politician with the best of them.

But the version of Karl on This Time Next Year is one we’re enjoying.

He and his guests have been taking us through some emotional stories, and Karl has got swept up in them himself.

He can be polarising at times, but this TV WEEK Gold Logie Award winner has hit the right note and is showing us a side of him we wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more of.

5. Kath & Kim – Look at moi!

We were excited when we saw Nine Network promos starring Kath and Kim.

But before we had time to crack open the Baileys and Barbecue Shapes, we learned Nine was simply running old episodes of Fountain Lakes’ foxy ladies.

That said, more than half a million viewers have tuned in late on a Tuesday night to chuckle at Kath (Jane Turner), Kim (Gina Riley) and Sharon (Magda Subanzki).

But imagine the viewership
if there were new episodes. Ladies, another season would be noice!
