This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman has revealed the series’ final episode has been planned, and scenes have already been shot with the all-star cast.
The show, which airs on NBC in the U.S. and Network Ten in Australia, follows the lives of Rebecca and Jack Pearson, and their three children – two biological twins and one adopted son – who were all born on their father’s birthday.
The finale of second season of This Is Us left fans with perhaps more questions about the Pearson family than ever before, but there’s no need to worry. It seems all your questions will be answered as part of the show’s long-running ‘plan.’
“We’re pretty far along,” Dan tells Entertainment Weekly of the show’s future. “Our writers and I are kind of to the end.
“We have a path for each season of the show. We’ve always had a plan… I don’t think this show will ever – despite any success it may or may not have – will ever overstay its welcome.
“We have a story to tell. And we want to do this the right way. And so we have a plan.”
He adds: “I’ve actually already shot pieces of the final scene in the series.”
The adult Pearson siblings Randall, Kate and Kevin are played by Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley.
Dan also reveals the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning series is set to focus more on its non-Pearson Family characters in the upcoming third season.
The creator says we will see more of who Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) were before they met the Pearsons.
“You’re going to be surprised what Toby and Beth were like before they entered this family.”
He also says fans will be “surprised” by where the “who is her?” mystery (introduced in the season finale) will lead.
“Our plan right now is that big questions will be answered in the course of the season,” he says. ” I think people are going to be surprised with how we use that timeline.”
The final few episodes of Season 2 left This Is Us fans devastated.
The show features an incredible cast, with Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia leading the group as Rebecca and Jack Pearson.
Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley star as the adult siblings Randall, Kate and Kevin (respectively), while their younger counter-parts are played by two groups of actors.
Teen Randall is played by Niles Fitch and young Randall is played by Lonnie Chavis; Teen Kate is played by Hannah Zeile and young Kate is played by Mackenzie Hancsicsak; Teen Kevin is played by Logan Shroyer and young Kevin is played by Parker Bates.
Where will the show take the Pearson family next?
No official release date for the third season has been confirmed yet, though the previous two seasons have aired in September.
