1. Love Child: Jessica Marais is a tour de force
We all know she’s an amazing actress. But if you want to see TV WEEK Logie winner Jessica Marais in full flight, look no further than this week’s stirring episode of Love Child.
Her character Dr Joan Millar’s baby needs a life-saving operation. Joan, in mother mode, is a rush of conflicting emotions – confusion, hope, devastation – and Jess allows us to feel every agonising moment.
2. Twin Peaks: Welcome back to the craziest show on TV
Back in 1990, a time with no internet or social media, there was absolutely nothing quite like Twin Peaks. The investigation into Laura Palmer’s (Sheryl Lee) murder was gripping, terrifying TV – and ahead of its time. Game Of Thrones has a dwarf – TP had one first. Buffy The Vampire Slayer had demons – TP had one named Bob. Will season three be a TV game-changer as well?
3. Home And Away: Irene and Zac are leaving Summer Bay – who’s next?
Everyone’s skipping town! Last week in Home And Away, Irene (Lynne McGranger) said she was leaving the Bay. Phoebe’s (Isabella Giovinazzo) off to chase her music dreams. And this week, Zac (Charlie Clausen) is on his bike.
This year, we’ve also farewelled Billie (Tessa de Josselin), Evie (Philippa Northeast) and Matt (Alec Snow).
While it’s sad to lose so many faves, new faces are coming to the Bay soon.
4. Wentworth: Is Sonia the one to bring down The Freak?
They don’t call her The Freak for nothing. Wentworth’s Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) is almost akin to an invulnerable villain from a superhero show. No-one can get to her. Not Bea (Danielle Cormack). Not Vera (Kate Atkinson). But could Sonia (Sigrid Thornton) be her kryptonite? If nothing else, Sonia has no fear of The Freak. Gosh, we hope that’s not her undoing…
5. 13 Reasons Why: The year’s most controversial series will be back
Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why has been accused of glorifying suicide and parents are worried about their children viewing it. Was it uncomfortable watch? Yes. Was it compelling? Absolutely. But it left so many unanswered questions. Season two will focus on the implications and other sides to the story. So it could actually provide a more rounded look at the issue that season one perhaps failed to achieve.
