The new limited series The Regime, starring Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet, has officially arrived here in Australia.
This is not the first time the actress has headlined an HBO series, having starred in Mare of Easttown as Detective Mare Sheehan, a role for which she won an Emmy in 2021.
In addition to Winslet, the all-star cast of The Regime includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton and Hugh Grant.
Understandably, fans are beyond excited to see a cast list of this calibre bring the series to life, with one saying: “Kate Winslet and HBO reunite? We are definitely getting another amazing show.”
Another added: “Love everything Kate Winslet stars in but also very excited for Martha Plimpton, glad she’s getting roles which demonstrate her talent, such an underrated actress.”
“I love everything about this. So happy to see Kate being offered and taking such powerful roles still. Watching her perform fills me with an unrivalled happiness,” said a third.
So, if you’re among those wanting to tune in to this six-episode drama, read on for everything you need to know about The Regime.
What is HBO Max’s The Regime about?
As per the official logline, The Regime “tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel”.
While details have been kept scarce up until the release, in the trailer we see a satirical tone framed around a sit down between Kate Winslet and Martha Plimpton’s characters.
And, considering that the brains behind the hit show Succession are involved in the series, it comes as no surprise that dry humour is at the core of The Regime.
Executive producers are Will Tracy (Succession, The Menu), who also serves as showrunner and writer, Frank Rich (Succession), Tracey Seward (The Queen), Kate Winslet, Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons) and Jessica Hobbs (The Crown).
Writers are Seth Reiss (The Menu), Juli Weiner (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver), Jen Spyra (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Gary Shteyngart (Succession), and Sarah DeLappe (Bodies Bodies Bodies).
