Alice (Alycia Debnman-Cary) grows up under the watchful eye of June (Sigourney Weaver) and the other women who run the farm. There, she is introduced to the language of flowers and learns that there are secrets about her past.

Just as Alice thinks she’s found solace in charming yet dangerous Dylan (Sebastián Zurita), she finds herself fighting for her life.

The seven-part Amazon Prime series, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, is adapted from Australian author Holly Ringland’s best-selling novel.

It stars an impressive female cast including Hollywood’s Sigourney Weaver along with Aussie talents Asher Keddie, Leah Purcell and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

It is set in a stunning outback Australian landscape as the story spans over decades where Alice grows up and away from her grandmother, June.

For Alycia Debnam, bringing the character of Alice to life was not a need but a must, describing the lure of the character as a ‘magnetic pull.’

“I read the story and I thought ‘this is mine and I will fight for it until I get it’. It’s the only time I have felt like that in my life,” she tells TV Week.

For Alycia, the project came at a time where she too was entering a new chapter in her life. “I was looking for something that really resonated and I’ve wanted to work in Australia for a long time,” she recalls.

“When I read (the book), it was a classic Australian story with some important themes to discuss like domestic abuse and toxic relationships, as well as a female-driven story. So it spoke to me on so many levels.”

Alice and Dylan have a relationship that veers far from upbeat.

Similarly, Asher Keddie, who plays the character Sally Morgan, a librarian who meets Alice early in the story, read the book and sought out the project too.

Asher asked her agent to reach out to producers to let them know she wanted to be involved “I read the book when it first came out and I loved the book. I put my hand up and said ‘I love this story’. I was compelled to be a part of it.”

For Leah Purcell, being part of a strong female cast attracted her to the role of Twig. She describes the premise of the film as women overcoming adversity.

“It’s women supporting other women,” she says. “They have gone through traumatic times, hard times and finding their inner strength to come out on top.”
