He’s opened up about his failed marriage and his plans to find love again. Now, TV WEEK can reveal Wombat is off the market.
During a recent interview, the loveable larrikin, who teamed up with his best mate Sticks to compete on The Block, admitted he’s not looking for romance – he has already found it!
“There might be something in the pipeline,” the 38-year-old salesman hints after years of living the single life.
When quizzed about who has captured his affections, Wombat is careful not to give too much away.
“I don’t want to say I’m too eligible just yet,” he laughs.
Single dad Wombat – whose real name is Clint – and his wife separated four years ago. The pair share custody of their seven-year-old son, Jake.
Chatting about his perfect woman, Wombat tells us he’d value a partner who shares the same interests.
“I look for someone who thinks along the same lines as I do,” he explains. “I’m pretty headstrong in terms of the direction in my life, the whole sustainability thing, good living and good food.”
Wombat lives in a converted shipping container “in the middle of the bush” just outside Sussex Inlet on the NSW South Coast.
Thankfully, he doesn’t expect his new girlfriend to rough it with him.
“I’m not saying she has to live exactly the way I live,” he says of his humble abode, which he moved into once his marriage ended.
“At least, I’ll do it up a bit. Now that I know how to style from The Block, I’ll be able to set it up a bit better. I might even throw down a few rugs.”
Another change that came after Wombat’s break-up was that impressive beard.
“I grew it because I had no one telling me to shave it off anymore,” Wombat says. “It’s been growing for 18 months, with no trimming. I do like it.”
He concedes not everyone is a fan of his impressive ginger whiskers.
“The new lady might be the one to make me take it off again,” Wombat muses.
He adds that he’s received plenty of attention, especially from the ladies, since filming of The Block wrapped.
“There’s a fair few funny fans that come through,” he laughs. “One said she wanted to be Mrs Wombat. I don’t know if she was a good sort – I didn’t look into it too far.”
So when will Australia meet the woman who’s making Wombat smile again? Well, the single dad declares he wants to keep her a secret for a little while longer.
“At the moment, I just want to get back to normal life,” he says.
