Best mates Sticks and Wombat were remaining upbeat following their auction result on The Block, however they admit it wasn’t the result they were hoping for.
The mates from coastal NSW had the third auction slot and sold their house for $2.65 million – $130,000 over the reserve price of $2.52 million.
When they received their reserve price the day before the auctions, they were taken aback.
“Honestly, I thought they were a bit high,” Sticks, 31, says.
Wombat, 38, adds that he hadn’t expected all five houses to have similar reserve prices.
“It was strange that they were all set very similar,” Wombat says.
“There should have been a bit of play in it.”
After watching Josh and Elyse and Sarah and Jason net about $400,000 each, the loveable duo were hoping to get the same auction result.
“It would have been good to get $2.8 or $2.9 million,” Sticks says.
“It’s disappointing on one hand, but we’re not angry at anything, we’re still stoked with the opportunity and we still made $130,000.”
However by the time they split the prize money, each man will walk away with $65,000.
“We have to split it and try and support two families out of it, so a little bit more would have been better,” Wombat says.
Carpenter Sticks added: “That will pretty much pay for me being down here for The Block, I’ll maybe break even.”
Yet host Scott Cam added that all teams had a good result, even if they didn’t get huge sums.
“They made $130,000 which is nothing to sneeze at,” The Block host Scott Cam, 54, says.
“They were happy, but you know, I think it went cheap. I think it should have gone for more. But maybe they didn’t have that emotional connection with the buyers.”
