As the 13th season of The Block signs off with possibly some of the biggest sales in the history of the show – the Elsternwick houses have been forecast to fetch up to $3 million each – thousands wait in hope to hear if the next season of the renovation series will provide them with their chance to walk away with a life-changing prize.

The only problem is, while it’s hard enough to stand out among the truckloads of applicants (10,000 people applied for this year’s series alone), there’s every chance the current Blockheads have made the screening process harder than it’s ever been before.
“We are after go-getters. People that realise this is once in a lifetime,” explains host Scotty Cam.
The show’s frontman has made no secret of how angered he was at Melbourne parents Sarah and Jason, whom he threatened to disqualify for not presenting a room.
“It upset me a lot. It was disappointing when we went through that… If one person could do it, then everybody could do it,” he explains.
However, the most frustrating part for Scotty was the fact he was caught off guard by the contenders’ failure to deliver. “In Jason’s interview at the very beginning he said, ‘We have a family motto to never give up’ and that’s the sort of thing we’re looking for. But I don’t believe that motto rang true throughout the series,” he shares.
It wasn’t just the struggling duo who served up controversy this season. There were also multiple cases of rule-breaking in regards to noise complaints, non-compliant rooms, questionable finishes, cheating scandals and one massive pool saga.
A set source reveals, “This has been the most difficult season anyone has been a part of. It’s been exhausting to deal with all the different egos and demands behind the scenes.”
Needless to say, they’ll “absolutely” be taking a closer look at the applicants lining up to star in the 2018 series, spills Scotty.
