Young renovators Josh and Elyse have big plans for the backyard of their Elsternwick house on The Block.
However they come to a grinding halt this week when a body corporate meeting is called.
Because Josh and Elyse’s landscape designer Dave Franklin wants to start work early on their pool to get council permission and the concrete poured, they have to get the other team’s permission.
Teams aren’t allowed to work ahead on upcoming rooms or spaces.
The request doesn’t go down too well with their neighbours Ronnie and Georgia who don’t want to give permission.
“Strategically we didn’t want to give them that advantage,” Georgia says.
Ronnie adds it wouldn’t be a level playing field if another team had additional time.
“Rules are rules and they’ve been put in place for a reason,” Ronnie adds.
Carpenter Josh and Elyse are left fuming at having their pool plans ruined.
“It’s just added fuel to the fire with everyone,” Josh, 28, says.
Model Elyse adds they thought the decision to allow early work would benefit everyone.
“We were the first ones to think about it and we thought it would be valuable for everyone,” Elyse, 24, says.
“Everyone has got the thought in their heads that they want to do a pool and you need to think about it now. There were benefits to all of us, but not anymore.”
