Sunday’s night’s judging did NOT go down very well.

Having failed to even attempt to complete their master suite last week, The Block contestants Jason and Sarah were unprepared for what would happen at judging with Scotty Cam.

The couple felt they couldn’t complete their room due to being low on cash, having trade issues and struggling to cope with the emotional toll of saying goodbye to their three children who were going overseas to the UK on a holiday.

The Melbourne parents were finding it difficult facing the separation, which was then compounded when London was hit by a terror attack that week.

Sarah and Jason have a tumultuous time on The Block.

But their week got worse when they faced host Scotty at judging.

Scott told them if the room and their kitchen weren’t completed by the following week, they’d be kicked off the show.

“It was pretty bad,” nurse Sarah, 45, says.

“We’d just said goodbye to our kids and we were upset. Then we went straight from the airport to headquarters for the room reveal and it was pretty brutal.”

Sarah maintains that the couple didn’t give up, but agrees it has appeared that way.

“We just had the idea that we’d have to do it bit by bit because we couldn’t get it done in the time that we had with the money we had,” Sarah says.

She concedes it was “arrogant” they hadn’t even tried to decorate the room.

“In hindsight I wished we’d done that because it would have been better than doing nothing,” she says. “We had a rough week.”

As for plumber Jason biting back at host Scott, he admits he can be a defensive person.

“If someone has a go, I have a go back,” Jason, 46, says.

“He’s [Scott Cam] not here to see us all the time and he had no idea what we’d been through.

“But at the end of the day, it was our decision to do what we did and we’re responsible for it.”
