After a year of floods, fires and another reappearance by COVID, many will be looking forward to the end of 2022. But before we say farewell for good, it’s time for one more party: the annual ABC New Year’s Eve extravaganza to showcase Sydney’s fireworks and Aussie performers to the world!
Presenter Zan Rowe will again host the festivities alongside her ABC colleague Charlie Pickering.
”You’ve earned it – we all have!” Zan tells TV WEEK.
”Every year has a lot going on, and New Year’s is a chance to sit back and enjoy brilliant live music, a bit of razzle-dazzle and, of course, those magnificent fireworks.”
The year will go out with a bang when the Sydney Harbour Bridge lights up.
”We’ll bring the best views across the whole harbour, that magnificent bridge, and some amazing drone shots from above too,” Zan says.”No matter what the weather, the crowds, or where you are, you’re front row at the best fireworks in the Southern Hemisphere.”
And the best performers too, with special guests that include Tones And I, festival favourites Ball Park Music, sisters Vika and Linda Bull, the iconic Dami Im and fast-rising rapper and songwriter Tasman Keith.
Plus, there will be a nod to Pride, a prelude to the ABC’s partnership with Sydney WorldPride in 2023, she says.
”We’ll be celebrating that party with show-stopping performances from Electric Fields, Courtney Act and the queen of New Year’s herself, Casey Donovan,” Zan says.
”Get ready for some rainbow surprises in other places too.”
It’s all adding up to another very special night, and a special party that Zan still gets excited to be invited to after six years of hosting.
”I wouldn’t do it if I wasn’t,” she says.
”I couldn’t think of a more joyful way to welcome a new year than with my mate Charlie Pickering, front row, to hear some of the best Australian musicians, and at the tip of the Opera House as the skies light up at midnight.
”It’s one of the best gigs in TV and I’m privileged and stoked to be part of it.”
New Year’s Eve 2022 airs Saturday, December 31st on the ABC.
