Before landing a spot on Australian Survivor, Jacqui and her husband Gary โจhad booked a six-week European holiday. And then they got some awful news.
โGary was diagnosed with prostate cancer,โ Jacqui, 50, tells TV WEEK.
โHeโd gone in for a check-up and the doctors said, โOh, actually, while youโre here, youโve got prostate cancer.โโ
The pair cancelled their โจtrip immediately and went into organisation mode as they waited to hear the prognosis for Garyโs treatment.
And then they got some other major news: Jacqui had been accepted to take part โจin Australian Survivor.

Jacqui and Gary are optimistic about his prognosis.
For the fitness nut, itโs a dream come true.
But the downside is sheโs had to leave Gary alone at home to have surgery.
And Jacqui is โจin the dark as to how his health is progressing.
โWe donโt know how bad โจit is,โ the marriage celebrant from Lennox Head on the NSW north coast admits.

While Jacqui is in Samoa, her husband is having life-saving cancer surgery.
Jacqui says both she and Gary have chosen to believe his recovery will be swift.
โI said, โLook, unless you are going to die, donโt ring me,โโ she says. โIโm sure itโs going to be fine and heโs feeling fine.โ
For now, sheโs focusing โจon winning the game โ and rebooking that holiday.
โI said to him, โEurope โจwill always be there, but you wonโt be. So Iโll go and try โจto win half a million bucks โจand weโll have a cracking holiday,โโ she smiles.
