The 49-year-old was welcomed back with open arms and welcome back luncheon at Matt Moran’s Chiswick restaurant in Sydney.

Sonia, who has been on maternity leave since November admitted she, missed David.

“But I’ve watched him every morning from home, from the comfort of my lounge room,” she said

“I would send him text messages throughout the show, to wind him up.”

For Sonia, returning to work is bittersweet. The new mum is excited to return to work but it will be the first time she leaves her baby girl.

But don’t worry, “David’s on standby!” Sonia joked, in case it gets too emotional.

Yours editor, Lisa Sinclair, joined the Mornings duo for their welcome back lunch and noted, while Sonia was clearly relishing motherhood, she revealed she’d missed her work family and was looking forward to her daily pre-show gossip sessions with David in her dressing room. She joked they should film their off-camera catch-ups! Now that we’d love to see!

David also welcomed new additions to the family, his beautiful twins Billy and Betty, no doubt he understands what Sonia is going through and will be a great shoulder for her to lean on!

“But you know what; he’s always been like that (supportive). I remember sitting there last year and getting quite teary about something on the show… but you know, he’s had Leo who’s five now going on six, and now the twins and he’s a real softy David.

“He’s a really soft dad. Soft as in, he’s got a real heart.”

In fact, Sonia calls David the “Daddy whisperer”.

“He gives me great advice David; he’s now showing me how to get Maggie to sleep through the night

“I can’t imagine how hard that must have been (with twins) in the first couple of weeks and David’s wife Lisa an absolute star,” Sonia gushed.

“The way she’s been able to do all of that and look after Leo. He’s such a hands on Dad and that’s the beauty of their relationship – they’re such a great team!”

And we think David makes a great team with his work wife, Sonia!

Welcome back, Sonia!
