Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has been granted a three-year restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matthew Prokop after being allegedly abused by him during their relationship.
The Los Angeles Superior Court confirmed that a three-year restraining order has been granted, further to a previous temporary restraining order, which was granted after Matt choked Sarah.

In documents obtained by TMZ, a judge had reportedly ordered that Matt must:
Stay 100 yards away from Hyland and her house
Not go near her job or workplace
Not own or possess a gun or ammunition
Stay 100 yards away from Hyland’s dog, Barkley Bixby
Not attack, threaten or harm the dog in any way
Matt, who is an actor, was previously thought to be something of a surrogate family member amidst the Modern Family entourage as Sarah was rarely seen without him by her side. He even travelled to Australia with the cast when they visited to film a special episode.

It turns out that the pair weren’t as happy as they seemed, though, after court documents revealed that he pinned Sarah against a car during an argument about her outfit and called her abusive names while choking her.
“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life,” Sarah said in the documents, which were also obtained by TMZ.
She also reported that after she attempted to break it off, he “relentlessly bombarded [her] with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats.”
Sarah also said she suffered injuries to her voice and had a very sore throat following the altercation, which happened in May.
Turning to her TV mum for help, Sarah was apparently assisted by Julie Bowen, who bought a one-way ticket for Matt back to his hometown of Texas. Julie came to the rescue after an altercation at Sarah’s house in which Matt threw a lighter at Sarah.
