It took about four minutes for Ryan Jones to secure himself the title of this year’s Bachelorette villain, and about a day to decide he didn’t want to be on the series anymore…
But before he even got the chance to walk out on Sophie Monk, she sent him back down the driveway, claiming he wasn’t into her.
But Ryan tells us the real reason he went home was because of James.
Scandal!
Ryan, what an exit!
Yeah, look it was it was a bit unexpected… Obviously, I didn’t go into it with the thought of, you know, being as honest as I was and letting her know how I feel, but I felt like I needed to…
What triggered such an intense conversation? Why now?
Look, it all kind of stems from Jimmy coming home from a single date. I got kind of to the TV room – I’ve got into a bit of trouble for falling asleep on the couch, and that was sort of my room.
Jimmy had come in and goes, “Nah, I need to have a chat with you”, and I was like, “Yeah, mate, of course.” He said, “Look, I’m really into her, I’m really developing chemistry with her.” I had to sort of take a step back and be like, “Where am I at with everything?” They were making connections and, for me, personally I was really struggling with it because looking at my past relationships they have been friendships that have blossomed into a relationship and it happened over six to 12 months…
So you decided to voice those feelings?
Yeah, I guess sort of moving forward and going to that date with Sophie, it just came out.
It was just two adults having a conversation and I just wanted to let her know where I was at. I needed more time and I needed a single date, and she responded with, “Well, look, I don’t really have time.”
So I guess I gave her the ultimatum of give me a single date and I can really let you know if I’m getting feelings or I guess we can just call it quits now…
Are you annoyed that she didn’t offer you a single date to see what could be there between you two?
Yeah, of course. Everyone’s sorting of saying she kicked you out, but I felt like if I wasn’t upfront and honest with her at that time, maybe she would have had the opportunity to have given me a single date…
But I didn’t think it was right to stay there if that’s how I was feeling. I’m upfront and honest in relationships, so that’s what I did…
Do you think it’s crazy the guys are falling in love after one date?
If guys can develop a relationship with someone after meeting for 10 minutes, then good on them – congratulations.
What an amazing achievement. But it takes me a bit more time… I’m a bit of a realist and if you can tell the difference between love and lust, it’s a very good trait to have.
Can Jarrod tell the difference between love and lust? He seems fully in love.
Look, if Jarrod figured out he was in love at first sight, then go for it, brother.
But yeah, I can only speak for myself, and it takes me a little bit more time to get to know each other.
So what happened to his plant? Did you guys sabotage it?
Uhhhh… I’m not a very good liar. Don’t put me in this position.
We’re putting you in it!
Oh, we can’t say anything about it. BRO CODE! [Laughs]
Damn bro code! Jarrod was quite emotional about those intruders…
It was quite emotional! It was a laugh for me, I was like, “What the f***?!” I was fully into this. You know what, that was Jarrod – that’s the only type of Jarrod I saw. I haven’t managed to catch up with him , but as far as I’m aware, that was the Jarrod I got to know.
When you guys discovered Stu and Soph knew each other, how did you feel?
It was like, well, yeah here we go… Maybe this whole thing is a gee up.
Well, you’re out of the thick now. But would you head back in to Bachelor in Paradise?
I don’t know if they’ll let me on that show… But if they did, I don’t know if I would.
I don’t think I’d go back on TV to find love again. I’m back sort of dating, its early days yet, but we will see how it goes.
