Reese Witherspoon is developing a half-hour comedy series inspired by Sara Saedi’s memoir Americanized: Rebel Without A Green Card.
The series will be executive produced by Reese under her Hello Sunshine banner and produced by ABC Studios. Sara is also on board to executive produce the TV adaptation of her memoir.
Americanized tells the story of a loving and off-beat Iranian family who are secretly undocumented immigrants, reports Deadline.
The series will give viewers a window into the life of a Middle-Eastern household while exploring the universal truths that bond every type of “American” family.
Americanized: Rebel Without A Green Card is one of many female-authored novels Reese’s Hello Sunshine production company has adapted for television.
Limited series Big Little Lies, which was based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, premiered in 2017 to high praise. A second season of the HBO series is set to air next year.
Little Fires Everywhere, adapted from the novel by Celeste Ng, will premiere as a miniseries on Hulu soon. Are You Sleeping, based on the novel by Kathleen Barber, is currently under production at Apple.
Not to mention the award-winning films Wild and Gone Girl, which were both adapted from novels written by women.
Reese won a Primetime Emmy Award for her work as executive producer on Big Little Lies in 2017, with the show scoring a whopping six nominations.
“It opened a lot of doors for me,” Reese told The New York Times after her win. “People wanted to be in business with me as a producer in the TV space.
“My mission was to create television for other women, for other female storytellers that are actresses, other directors and other writers. I think it just clicked in people’s minds.”
We can’t wait to see what Reese has in store for us when Americanized hits our screens!
