Starz CEO Chris Albrecht has also spoken about seasons five and six at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in January.

โ€œThere are ten books, and we are having very productive conversations about the future of the show,โ€ Chris says.

Season four is currently in production and is expected to air in the US towards the end of this year.

Following the format of a book per season, it will be based on Diana Gabaldonโ€™s Drums of Autumn, and will see Jamie and Claire settle in the American colonies.

The pair meet up with Jamieโ€™s Aunt Jocasta, encounter a new enemy and struggle to come to terms with slavery in the New World.

Ronald D. Moore spoke to Variety about the upcoming season: โ€œThereโ€™s slavery, thereโ€™s American Indians, thereโ€™s a rebellion brewing up in New England that will become the American Revolution. And they land right smack dab in the middle of all this.โ€

Most importantly this season is the reunion weโ€™ve all been waiting for โ€“ Jamie and Brianna.

Ahead of filming their key scene, Sam Heughan tells Variety: โ€œItโ€™s a huge moment and will be the catalyst to a lot of the drama that unfolds.โ€

Season four is shaping up to be full of drama; weโ€™re getting excited just thinking about it.
