Australian Ninja Warrior contestant Johann Ofner was tragically shot while filming a film clip for Australian hip-hop group Bliss n Eso before the series went to air.

In memory of the 28-year-old stuntman and carpenter, the show screened a dedication to the 28-year-old on July 16.

“We have the utmost respect for Johann and his involvement in Ninja Warrior and we want to honour his memory in the most appropriate way,” a spokesperson said.

However, Johann’s name did appear on the score board throughout the series and last night’s episode showed footage of Johann standing alongside the other grand finalists.

According a spokesperson from Endamol Shine Australia, including Johann in the series was intentional.

“Contrary to reports, Johann Ofner’s inclusion in the leaderboards throughout Australian Ninja Warrior was intentional and part of our tribute to an incredible athlete.”

Johann placed 6th overall in the completion that failed to produce a winner. The contestant that reached the furthest in the course was Fred Dorrington.

The series rated consistently well for the Nine Network over its three-week run and last night’s finale drew an incredible 2.15 million viewers.

Many viewers took to social media to air their frustration over a lack of a winner on the show. The fact that no-one was able to complete the course and be crowned Australia’s first Ninja Warrior was rather anti-climactic after such a thrilling season.
