TV viewers are always going to love a good medical drama. Hot doctors saving lives and falling for each other – there’s no way anyone could get sick of that.
New medical series Pulse has plenty of hot doctors. But it’s clear it’s not trying to be just an Aussie Grey’s Anatomy.
The series tries to reflect the life of today’s young Aussie doctors, which is tough and complicated.
Doctors can make mistakes. Patients aren’t always as grateful as you’d expect. And when it comes to transplants, there just aren’t enough organs to go around.
Pulse has a lot of characters, and you’ll need time to get your head around who’s who.
The main player is Frankie (Claire van der Boom), who’s a transplant patient turned doctor. She’s mentored by the lovely Berger (Owen Teale). Frankie’s friend, Lou (Andrea Demetriades), is an aspiring surgeon and has to deal with the incredibly blunt Cutter (Susie Porter).
Meanwhile, their housemate, Tabb (Arka Das), is working in cardio under short-tempered Eli (Liam McIntyre).
And that’s just for starters.

With so many characters being introduced within the first episode, it feels like there is a lot to take in.
But the scene is being set for some very powerful drama still to come.
The production of the series is all class – from the carefully constructed hospital setting to the top-notch cast.
Claire van der Boom and Liam McIntyre show us why they’ve been in hot demand over in the US.
Meanwhile, Owen Teale from Game Of Thrones adds star power.
And it’s great to see actors like Arka Das and Pallavi Sharda in the cast, making it feel like a true reflection of Australia today.
