Following Thomas Weatherall’s “incredible” win at the TV WEEK Logie Awards, Heartbreak High fans are sure to be wondering when they’ll see their favourite high-schoolers return to school… and our screens.

A reboot of an Aussie classic, Heartbreak High premiered on Netflix in September 2022, with the show becoming a smash hit in Australia and beyond.

“The fact that the show had that big of an impact is really special,” Thomas tells TV WEEK of their overnight success.

“I feel very lucky to be a part of that show, it’s a crazy show to make, but you know, it’s a wonderful bunch,” he adds. “[Being on set] means three months of pretending to be 16 again and being paid to be an idiot. So it’s very enjoyable.”

Thomas Weatherall wins the TV WEEK Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor.

What can fans expect from Heartbreak High Season 2?

Thomas won the award for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor at the 2023 Logies, after spending the past few months filming second seasons of both Heartbreak High and RFDS.

As for what fans can expect from the second seasons of Heartbreak High, Thomas, who plays Malakai, describes it as “suspenseful.”

“It’s a slight variation of what happened in the first season, I think people are really going to love it. We’ve got some new cast mates and I think people are going to fall in love with them very quickly.”

His co-star Chloe Hayden, who plays Quinni, said people should expect plenty of “drama” when the show returns.

“We found out [it was coming back] at like 7am in a WhatsApp group and I was like WHAT – it’s so exciting because we get to do it all again now,” she reveals.

Like Thomas, Chloe admits she was taken aback by the global success of the Netflix series.

“It literally blew up overnight,” she says. “We knew we had something really special when we were making it, but I don’t think we realised just how much of an impact it would have and how much other people would think it was special. It’s been such an overwhleming, but really, really exciting experience.”

Chloe Hayden says the new season of Heartbreak High plays into the drama.
