From the lovable Scott and Charlene back in 1986, to the modern day Aaron and David, we can help but admit we’ve become attached to a number of Neighbours couples over time.

TV WEEK takes a look back at some of Ramsay Street’s most iconic romances.

SCOTT & CHARLENE (1986-1989)

SCOTT & CHARLENE (1986-1989)

This teenage love story captured hearts across the world.

Boy-next-door Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) and tomboy Charlene Mitchell (Kylie Minogue) were together both on screen and off. Fans here and in the UK couldn’t get enough of their wholesome love. In the UK, 20 million viewers tuned in for their nuptials. Sadly, Scott and Charlene left Ramsay Street, but their kids, Daniel (Tim Phillipps) and Madison (Sarah Ellen), have both popped up in Erinsborough.

SUSAN & KARL (1994-present)

SUSAN & KARL (1994-present)

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the Kennedys.

The bond between childhood sweethearts Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Susan (Jackie Woodburne) has been tested by Karl’s infidelity. First, he had an affair with Sarah (Nicola Charles). Then, he fell for Izzy (Natalie Bassingthwaighte) – and fathered a child with her. But Dr Karl and Susan’s love has withstood the tests and they remain one of Ramsay Street’s most-loved duos.

DEE & TOADIE (2003)

Iconic couple’s blissful union meets a watery end.

Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney) long had feelings for pretty nurse Dee Bliss (Madeleine West). For a while, she was merely his housemate, who dated Joel (Daniel MacPherson). But Dee soon realised good-guy Toadie was the man for her and the pair tied the knot. In one of Neighbours’ most shocking scenes, Dee died after the wedding when Toadie crashed his car into the sea.

DREW & LIBBY (1998-2002)

The couple’s chemistry equalled true love on screen.

Country boy Drew Kirk (Dan Paris) quickly fell for Libby Kennedy (Kym Valentine). They soon faced their first hurdle when Libby almost died following a motorbike accident. She then called off their wedding because the accident had left her infertile – or so she thought. Libby later gave birth to son Ben. But their world crumbled when Drew later died after falling from his horse.

AARON & DAVID (2016 – Present)

AARON & DAVID (2016 – Present)

TV’s first legal same-sex wedding gave Scott and Charlene a run for their money.

It took a bit of time for this relationship to blossom, but Aaron (Matt Wilson) and David’s (Takaya Honda) journey has been more than just a storyline to fans. Although the couple had a number of hurdles in the lead up to the wedding, the ceremony proved to be one of the most joyous and emotional episodes in Neighbours History.

DES & DAPHNE (1986-1988)

DES & DAPHNE (1986-1988)

These laid-back lovers were early fan favourites.

Daphne Lawrence (Elaine Smith) was the “stripper with a heart of gold” hired to perform at Des Clarke’s (Paul Keane, both above) stag party. A misunderstanding led to his wedding being called off, paving the way for Des to fall for Daphne. The two married and had a son, Jamie – Ramsay Street’s first baby. However, Daphne later died after a car accident – but not before she uttered the heartbreaking words “I love you, Clarkey.”

MARK & KATE (2010-2014)

MARK & KATE (2010-2014)

On-again, off-again love ends in tragedy.

Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) and Kate Ramsay (Ashleigh Brewer) were a match made in heaven. Sadly, their relationship was fraught with peril – thanks to Mark’s job as a cop and his time spent in a witness protection program. After many hurdles, the two reunited and Mark proposed. But tragedy struck when Kate was shot and killed by baddie Victor Cleary (Richard Sutherland).

GAIL & PAUL (1987-1989)

GAIL & PAUL (1987-1989)

Paul met his match in this dynamic partnership.

Playboy Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) dated many women, but few could match him the way Gail Lewis (Fiona Corke) did. Paul hired Gail to work with him – and they entered into a marriage of convenience to impress a client. Although the union soon became the real deal and they had triplets, the pair later split up. They reunited in 2005, but the spark had gone.

BETH & BRAD (1992-1994)

BETH & BRAD (1992-1994)

Their relationship echoed Scott and Charlene’s and we loved them for it.

Tomboy Beth Brennan (Natalie Imbruglia) and larrikin Brad Willis (Scott Michaelson) were meant for one another, but their romance was rocky. First, Brad’s affair with Lauren (Sarah Vandenbergh) was exposed on their wedding day. Then, Beth fell for older man Phil (Ian Rawlings). But fate drew the two back together and they wed – and left for a new life in Perth.

RINGO & DONNA (2008-2010)

The star-crossed lovers made it work… eventually.

The course of true love rarely runs smooth – especially in Ramsay Street. Donna Freedman (Margot Robbie) and Ringo Brown’s (Sam Clark, both above) relationship was no exception. After meeting in a kissing booth, the pair had to deal with a love triangle with Zeke (Matthew Werkmeister), and Donna’s fling with Andrew (Jordan Smith). Eventually they married, but grief soon followed as Ringo was hit and killed by Steph Scully (Carla Bonner) on her motorbike.
