Candice Bergen is back! The actress, who starred as the iconic lead in Murphy Brown, is reprising her role in the revival of the beloved series.

The show, which ran for 10 seasons from 1988 to 1998, followed journalist Murphy Brown as she worked for fictional television news show FYI.

The CBS revival will pick up 20 years later, where Murphy has her own morning show and an adult son named Avery (Jake McDorman), who is also a journalist.

The Murphy Brown revival will also bring back original stars Faith Ford (Corky Sherwood), Joe Regalbuto (Frank Fontana), and Grant Shaud (Miles Silverberg). Along with Jake, the series is also welcoming newcomers Nik Dodani (Pat Patel) and Tyne Daly (Phyllis).

Fans scored their first look at the cast today, when this photo was shared by CBS.

Much like in the original series, Murphy is set to tackle real-life news headlines with her typical iron-willed attitude.

In the first-look teaser for the revival – which you can watch in the player at the top of the article – Candice says reprising her role is ‘like coming home.’

Returning series creator and executive producer Diane English says the revival is every bit as entertaining and relevant as the original.

“It’s an incredible thing when you can step away from something you care so much about, and now, 20 years later, it’s as if not a day has passed,” Creator/Executive Diane tells Entertainment Weekly.

“It was such a special morning laughing with some of my favorite people.”

Murphy Brown is just the latest show to land a revival, with Will & Grace, Charmed, Twin Peaks and Dynasty all scoring reboots in recent years. Even the disgraced Roseanne revival has just been confirmed to continue on in the form of a spin-off, The Conners, without leading lady Roseanne Barr.

We can’t wait for our favourite hard-hitting journalist to return to TV!

The 13 episode revival season of Murphy Brown is set to air in the U.S. over the 2018-2019 season, premiering on September 27th 2018. There’s no word yet on which network will pick up the show in Australia.
