Miley Cyrus is back, making her first major television role since she wrapped up filming Disney’s Hannah Montana in 2011.
Aside from a handful of roles in films and a small guest appearance in Two and a Half Men, Miley’s main focus over the past decade has been her successful music career. But, just like Hannah Montana, Miley loves getting the best of both worlds and is FINALLY going to be back on our screens.
The 26-year-old star will be one of the key characters in the upcoming season of Netflix’s Black Mirror.
For those who don’t know, Black Mirror is a British TV series from Charlie Brooker, with four incredible seasons and an interactive choose-your-own-adventure film already under its belt.
Each stand-alone episode showcases a different setting, with new characters and a new line-up of stars to take on the roles. The show explores the way we live in the world now, and how the dark side of our technology addiction could manifest.
The first trailer for Season Five was unveiled by Netflix today, revealing the theme of new episodes to be ‘loneliness’ in the digital age.
“Netflix invites you to see three new stories about the future we should have seen coming,” the tagline for the new season reads, while Love Supreme’s song “Lonely Feelings” ominously plays throughout the trailer.
One of the stories shown in the teaser follows a pop star with thousands of impressionable young fans to ‘connect’ with, played by Miley.
Other major names on board for the series’ return include Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame, Gangster Squad), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Us), Topher Grace (That ’70s Show, BlacKkKlansman), Damson Idris (Snowfall, Farming), and Andrew Scott (James Bond Spectre, Sherlock). Also on the line-up are Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.
From a man wielding a gun shouting about smartphones, to a man seemingly embarking on an affair, to a lonely pop star and her lonely fans, the fifth instalment of the anthology series is sure to take viewers on a wild and unsettling ride through the reality of our 21st Century existence.
Black Mirror Season 5 premieres Wednesday, June 5th on Netflix.
