The TV WEEK Logie Awards is easily one of the most anticipated nights on the Australian entertainment calendar.
A celebration of the country’s most talented television stars, the Logies promises to pack plenty of action: a front-row seat to red-carpet wardrobe hits (and misses) for those watching at home, and for those in attendance, a sleepless night!
A four-time Logie-award winner and the host of Friday-night TV-show favourite, The Living Room, Miguel Maestre is somewhat of a Logies veteran.
Ahead of this year’s ceremony, TV WEEK Associate Editor Tamara Cullen caught up with the excitable chef to chat all things Logies, life at home with his family and what he misses most when travelling for work.
Plus, how he plans on catching up on all the sleep he’ll miss when employing those hard-learned Dancing With The Stars techniques and partying the night away at the Logies’ after-party.

What do you love most about the TV WEEK Logie Awards?
The awards are something that we [The Living Room crew] celebrate genuinely; it’s something that we wait for all year! This award ceremony is a voice for the people. It isn’t just professional people telling you that you did a good job; this is the audience saying we like you and like what you do.
What time will you get to bed on the night of the Logies?
I will likely have a sleepless night, particularly if we win!
Logies aside, on a regular night, how much sleep do you need to operate?
I’m very hyperactive and full-on (a detriment to my poor wife), so when I sleep, it’s like trying to switch off a machine. I will, most nights, sleep for about five to six hours. I have two little children, so I am constantly trying to squeeze and stretch my sleep.
You travel a lot for work — what creature comforts do you miss most when you’re away from home?
When you’re in a hotel, you never sleep as well as you do when you’re at home, so one of the things you miss the most is your bedroom. Everything at home always feels nicer — your pillow, your sheets, your bed!
As a chef, what’s your ultimate comfort food before bed?
I have an amazing routine before bed with my wife. Together, we debrief about the day with a cup of tea and something sweet that I can manage with my two fingers.
You live a pretty busy life, how do you make your bedroom your sanctuary?
My bedroom is like my cooking — keep it simple! Rule number one: never have a TV in your bedroom. Your bedroom is for sleeping, love and conversation, and a TV or even a mobile phone doesn’t help that. And make it comfortable, like this bed!
