The Bachelor Australia’s resident police officer Michelle Paxton may have secured Matty Johnson’s wrists, but she failed to capture his heart. Despite receiving the first rose from the Bach, she never received any solo time and was kicked to the kerb.
But if you thought the babe was gutted, think again. Michelle already has another guy in mind… none other than newly single former Bachelor Richie Strahan.
Matty J gave you the first rose, so you must have really thought you’d made a great impression. What the hell happened?
I was like, “Oh, every week my name is going to be on this date card” and it just never happened.
It’s extremely disappointing to get the first rose and then have nothing eventuate from that, and for him not to get to know me. You can’t know someone with just half an hour conversation every week…
How did feel missing out each time?
It’s disappointing he didn’t want to know me a bit more. I think two weeks before I left, I actually said to the producers I’d like to go home.
No way?
Yeah, I knew it was my time. You know when a guy likes you, and you also know when you want to know a guy a bit more. And for me, watching everyone go on dates and have second dates coming around, you just get that feeling that this isn’t The One for me. I knew that it wasn’t going to happen, so I just kind of wanted to get back to the life I had on the outside.
So why did you decide to stay on?
I did want Matty to get to know me more on a single date, so you do kind of hang in there with the hope you will get one. Matty on his season got a single date really late and he and Georgia formed a great connection. You weren’t sure if it was going to be the same this time around, so you just live on hope basically.
Did Matty try to explain his decision to you?
No, he did the jerk move of, “You know, you’re really great and all but see ya later!” He gives you a lot of compliments and then sends you home.
How did you feel when you left?
I was trying to hide my excitement. I had the feeling I was going, so I was prepared for it and I was looking forward to seeing my family. Like, the thought of seeing my family after not seeing them for so long.
You also auditioned for Richie Strahan’s season. Do you think you would have had a better chance with him?
I’m a bit more attracted to Richie, physically. I have a thing for redheads, I don’t know why, like, Ron Weasley… [Laughs]
Well Richie is single now, so it’s like the stars have aligned for you to make a move.

You became tight with Jen Hawke. Did you join her stress eating the Nutella before rose ceremonies?
Yeah mate, I gained seven kilos in that house! You think being on television, you want to keep your appearance up and stay fit and healthy – just in case there’s any fitness dates. For some reason I was the complete opposite, and starting eating everything in the house. It was just a real slippery slope. I think the stylist hated me! Every week I went in for a dress and it was like, well that’s another kilo!
Oh no! Well, what else are you supposed to do but eat when Matty is taking out other girls on dates?
Well exactly… Actually, I used to creep right over to the boundaries of the house to listen to next door’s radio.
