From Adam Goodes to Wayne Carey, over the past 10 years, many an AFL legend has taken a seat on the Marngrook Footy Show panel.
The show, known for giving an Indigenous take on AFL with a strong focus on Indigenous contribution and achievement in the game, began as a radio program on community radio in 1997 before launching as a series on NITV in 2007.
During tonight’s episode, to celebrate a decade on air, hosts Grant Hansen, Gilbert McAdam, Leila Gurruwiwi and Shelley Ware will be joined by former panellists and special guests.
Original Marngrook hosts Derek Kickett and Ronnie Burns will return, along with former Essendon player Nathan Lovett-Murray.
“I started the Marngrook Footy Show in 2007 because I wanted to create a platform to champion Indigenous achievement in the AFL,” host Grant Hansen explains.
“Over the past 10 years we have created a truly unique football show that embraces diversity and celebrates the success of Indigenous footballers and the contribution they make to footy.
“I’ve been honoured to share the desk with so many legends of the game past and present.”
Margrook isn’t afraid to tackle the tough topics especially when it comes to racism in sport.
Highlights of the show have included insightful and candid interviews with Buddy Franklin, Michael O’Loughlin and Eddie Betts, Indigenous players who have all been the at the centre of controversy during their highly successful careers.
The show has also been a leader in giving a platform to female sports presenters. Marngrook’s Leila Gurruwiwi joined the show as a 19-year-old when it first started in 2007, and alongside co- host Shelley Ware, continues to delight fans with their insight and opinions on the sport.
