Eight years on from wrapping up hit show The Hills, Kristin Cavallari has been waiting for the right time to return to reality television. Now she’s back and centrestage in her own show, Very Cavallari.
Following her life in Nashville with husband and former NFL star Jay Cutler and the launch of her lifestyle brand, there’s lots of drama.
“Opening my flagship store and headquarters for Uncommon James, I thought it was a good opportunity to get me back into reality TV, without it being just about my family,” Kristin, 31, tells TV WEEK.
While her husband Jay makes regular appearances in the show, Kristin’s made a point of keeping her three kids clear of the cameras.
“I’d never do a show just about my family,” Kristin explains. “I always said I’d go back to reality TV if it could be about something more.”
It turns out that “something more” is Kristin’s charismatic staff – a group of young professionals not dissimilar to those on The Hills.
“It’s about my staff mostly and their personal drama,” she reveals. . “It’s really nice for me because it’s the best of both worlds – it’s not about my personal drama but it still gets me back into that [reality TV] world.”
No stranger to reality TV, Kristin was just a teen when she first appeared on Laguna Beach. Often portrayed as a ‘mean girl’, she was uneasy about a return to reality.
“I was really nervous at first, thinking, ‘Oh, God, did I make the right decision?'” Kristin recalls. “Just because of my experience on the other two [shows], but that quickly went away.”
Taking on an executive producer role helped put her mind at ease, however.
Very Cavallari season one is currently streaming on hayu.
