Kim Kardashian’s lavish wedding and the party shut down by authorities

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

Kim Kardashian’s lavish wedding to professional basketball star Kris Humphries on Sunday was by all accounts an epic event. But the bride’s celebrity status couldn’t stop the raucous wedding after-party being shut down by authorities.

The sunset wedding ceremony was held at an exclusive private estate in Montecito, California.

The 440 guests included former Spice Girl Melanie B, Eva Longoria, Lindsay Lohan, Humphries’s basketball teammates, Kardashian’s sisters Khloe, Kourtney, brother Robert, half-brother Brody with girlfriend Avril Lavigne, half-sisters Kylie and Kendall, mother Kris Jenner and stepfather Bruce.

E! — the network behind the Kardashians’ reality shows — revealed that 30-year-old Kim’s dress was a floor-length ivory creation by designer Vera Wang, with an embellished bodice and train. The bridal party and guests were all requested to wear either black or white.

The joint maids of honour Khloe and Kourtney and bridesmaids Kylie and Kendall donned ivory dresses said to be inspired by Pippa Middleton’s long, sleek dress. Kim’s mum, Kris Jenner, 55, looked like a bride in her own Vera Wang-designed dress.

After the 30-minute ceremony the wedding reception was held in a separate marquee where guests enjoyed the wedding feast and a wedding cake that Us Weekly reported was taller than 5ft 2.5 inch Kim.

Kim and Kris had expected the festivities to be an all-night celebration at the luxury estate they had hired out for the wedding.

But the after-party drama unfolded just after midnight when the local fire marshal ordered they switch off their music due to noise complaints from neighbours, reported E! news.

The reported $US1.5 million that Kim will be paid by US People magazine for the exclusive rights for the wedding photographs should soften any after-party disappointment.

Kim will also be paid for the television footage, which will be aired by the E! network in a two-part special — watch the preview clip at the top of this page.
