Kanye West has never been one to bottle up his feelings.
In the rapper’s latest outburst he has spilled on his relationship with Kim Kardashian, saying some people “don’t understand” their love for each other.
Speaking at the Cannes Lions festival, the 37-year-old said he and his reality star wife have long been misjudged because of their differing heritage. And only now is the world starting to accept their interracial relationship.
The eccentric star said the couple’s record-breaking Vogue cover shoot and their racy Bound 2video clip has helped to break down superficial attitudes.
“If Vogue had come out before theBoundvideo then everyone would have been like, ‘Oh, it’s OK’, and that’s the endorsement.
“It took something established likeVogueto make everything OK. Like we had the wedding and they were like ‘that’s cool now’.”
He also went on to say the newlyweds have had to learn to rise above all the negativity hurled their way.
“You have to be able to take the lashes when people don’t understand,” he said.
“Two years of people not understanding an interracial relationship, two years of people not understanding the idea of the art world meets the pop world… you have to take the lash and be able to swim in the backlash.”
Earlier this year, the singer got in trouble for attacking an 18-year-old man after he hurled racist abuse at Kim while the pair were out and about in Beverly Hills.
