Revivals and reboots seem to be in abundance as the favourite shows we wished had never left our screens make a return. And it seems no option is off the table.

In fact, teen thriller/drama Buffy The Vampire Slayer may be one of the most discussed revival options of all.

While at the INTV conference in Jerusalem, Fox TV group chair Gary Newman all but confirmed that it would be resurrected, but told Variety he “wouldn’t get out of the building alive” if he made an actual announcement.

The only catch to a Buffy revival seems to be the blessing of series creator, Joss Whedon.

“It’s something we talk about frequently, and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with,” he said.

“When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen.”

We can only imagine where Buffy would pick up 20 years on.

At a celebration of the show’s 20th anniversary, Joss wasn’t opposed to the idea.

“Everything sort of finds its way back somewhere,” Joss told EW.

“I’ve been trying deliberately to move forward and do something a little bit different.

“But yeah, the great thing is everybody looks great, and the other great thing is the show is about growing up. If we did it with these guys, they’d be the age they basically are.

“They’d probably play a little younger because they can do that. But yeah, you’d see somebody going through their life at a different stage.”

The show still holds significant relevance 20 years on. Joss’ inspiration for the series came from a desire for something more than what most thrillers offered – a cliché blonde being killed off while making out with her boyfriend on a secluded road.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram to mark the 21st anniversary of Buffy and acknowledged her kick-ass female character.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the anniversary of #btvs is the same week as #internationalwomensday,”she wrote. “I have always believed that the world is changed by your example, not by your opinion. We have all learned a lot from Buffy, and the best part is, that never ends.”

So we’ll just sit back and wait, as patiently as possible, for the reboot confirmation that seems all but destined to happen.
