We’re still catching our breath after Cheryl Maitland’s Married At First Sight finale showdown with her former hubby Jonathan, her short-lived ex Andrew – aka Jonesy – and her love rival Scarlett.
But while Scarlett’s night ended with the cops being called, Chez, 25, went to sleep content. And it’s no wonder. She has a new man in her life and they’re already hinting at an engagement.
Of course, nothing Cheryl does comes without controversy. After revealing last week that she’d found love with Melbourne plumber Dean Gibbs, people were already digging into his past – and were shocked to discover he’s a former police officer who was sentenced to 12 months behind bars in 2014 for trafficking cocaine. Luckily though he didn’t end up serving any time due to good behaviour.
However, Dean and Cheryl – who was also caught up in her own drug scandal earlier this year – insist they’re weathering the storm of haters.
“The couples that are meant to be, are the ones that go through everything that is meant to tear them apart, and come out even stronger,” Dean says.
And they have. Cheryl tells NW that Dean has already met her dad – and he approves. “They’re best mates,” she says. Well that’s a better start than he ex Jonesy had…
Chez, hi! How are things with Jonesy now?
Andrew and I are definitely not friends – I think he blocked me online!
What do you make of Scarlett calling you “the fakest person” she’s ever met?
I actually found that a little humorous. She’s in her own strange little fairytale world. I wasn’t surprised with the way she dealt with the situation.
She clearly took a liking to Jonesy. At one point she said, “Third time’s a charm,” and tried to make a move!
Wait – I didn’t even know she was flirting with Andrew… Good luck to them both, I guess. [Laughs]
Do you reckon there’s something there between them?
Knowing Scarlett, I think she would weasel her way in to anything for some attention.
Lauren also had a good crack at Jonesy, saying she felt he was full of himself…
Let’s just say, Lauren took the words right out of my mouth. Lauren and I still speak, to this day! We laugh about it all, as we’ve both moved on and couldn’t be happier.
How about Jonathan – no contact since filming?
No. I don’t have his number and he doesn’t have mine. We were together all the time on the show, so there was no need for him to have my number, and I didn’t really want to give it to him by the end.
Did he try to exchange numbers?
At the end of it he said, “Here’s my number.” I put it in the bin!
