It’s been a big year for Hunter Page-Lochard, who has landed roles in critically acclaimed Australian television productions Cleverman and Wentworth.
He was also nominated for Best New Talent at the recent TV WEEK Logie Awards. The TV WEEK Logies ambassador Dannii Minogue was blown away by Hunter’s talent.
“This dude is incredible!” she told TV WEEK. “He loves music and rap. He did these amazing videos dancing in a supermarket. I said, ‘Can I dance with you in the supermarket?’ I think we should do it in Bunnings.”
Now, Hunter has his sights set on Hollywood.
“I don’t like labels, but I still want to go over there and try and make something of myself,” Hunter told The Daily Telegraph. “I will be the first indigenous person kind of doing it really. The world is gonna know who we are.”
At just 23-years-old, he’s built an impressive resume of roles having appeared in series Water Rats and Soul Mates as well as the films Bran Nue Dae and The Sapphires.
“I love to believe it is my time,” Hunter said. “I’ve been wanting to make that transition to go to LA for the last couple of years, so I feel this might be the universe pushing me in that direction and if not, inspiring me to just do it myself.”
Hunter was recently in LA attending the ceremony for the annual Australians In Film Heath Ledger Scholarship.
Hunter was up against Tilda Cobham-Hervey (The Kettering Incident, Barracuda), Dakota Shapiro (Dead Serious, The First Month), Daniel Monks (Marley), Mitzi Ruhlmann (Killing Ground, Boys in The Trees), Mojean Aria (Suitcase, Call of the Void), Morgan Griffin (Bad Blood, Spin Out), Ratidzo Mambo (Glee, Moms), Sam Delich (The Marshes, Gallipoli: The Power of Ten) and Shalom Brune-Franklin (Thor: Ragnarok, Our Girl, Swiss Avalanche, Barracuda, Doctor Doctor).
The award was won by Mojean Aria, who recalled meeting Heath Ledger as a boy in his acceptance speech.
“I met Heath when I was 12 and he came out to do a Q&A at a movie screening,” Mojean said. “I remembered his energy and didn’t know anyone like that. I think about that moment, and that I was in a room with him, and that led me on a path to explore different sides of myself, and not have to be a tough guy all the time.”
