Rumours have been swirling about simmering tensions between the judges on House Rules this season. But is there any truth to the rumours?
Wendy Moore says her fellow judges Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Drew Heath often have very different opinions about renovations.
“They completely disagree,” she tells TV WEEK. “But as far as it going any deeper and into any personal issues, no, there’s definitely nothing simmering. We all laugh.
“We walk into something and I go, ‘I hate this. Drew’s going to love it.’ Then he loves it. The same with Laurence as well.”
Wendy says after doing the judging, the three of them will go out to dinner “and laugh about the differences”.
Wendy admits that before she met Laurence, she was worried that he might totally overshadow this season’s other new judge, Drew. But she stopped worrying as soon as she met the controversial UK designer.
“Laurence is a team player,” she says. “For all of his fabulousness and flamboyance, he’s actually quite a generous person. So as soon as I met him I thought, ‘No, we’ll be fine.’”
Although Drew is a respected architect, he had no experience working on TV before House Rules.
“As the series has gone on, I think you’ve seen Drew get a bit more forthright with his comments,” Wendy says. “He’s definitely come out of his shell more and more.”
Off-camera, Wendy says both Laurence and Drew are very funny, but in different ways.
“Drew will just be standing there and he suddenly says something and it’s so unexpectedly funny that it takes a second for it to sink in. He makes me laugh a lot more than you would expect.
“Laurence, obviously is funny. He makes everybody laugh. It’s impossible not to laugh. He wants to make you laugh and if he’s not making you laugh, he’s feeling a bit frustrated about it.”
