With House Rules returning to pit state against state, we take a look at the latest round of budding renovators to compare their skill sets. Meet the teams below and let the battle commence!
Kate & Harry SA
Ever heard the one about buying the worst house in the best street? That’s what Adelaide couple Kate, 28, and Harry, 31, did. But it means that half their home is completely uninhabitable.
And that’s tough when the parents of one-year-old Xavier are looking to add to their young family.
“We definitely want another child, but we just don’t have the room,” Kate says.
“We want a big family, so the house has to be grand and spacious,” carpenter Harry adds.
Sean & Ella TAS
Newly engaged couple Sean and Ella, both 24 and paramedics for Ambulance Tasmania, have no renovation experience, but plenty of drive to win.
“It would take away the constant struggle to get ahead that we, like so many young couples, are faced with when buying your first home,” Ella says.
Andrew & Jono WA
Identical twins Andrew and Jono, 27, hope they can follow 2016 winners Luke and Cody’s “twinning” triumph!
The duo from Mandurah are looking to renovate their “unstylish” shared home and hope their laid-back natures will help them survive the cutthroat competition.
“We’re both pretty relaxed all the time, so even in stressful situations we’re OK,” community AFL co-ordinator Andrew reveals.
Fiona & Nicole VIC
Newly divorced Fiona, 44, turned to her life-long best friend Nicole when she saw the ads calling for House Rules contestants.
“As a single mum-of-three, I didn’t have the funds to renovate my home to make it habitable,” Fiona says.“Nic offered to partner [with] me so the shack could be made a home.”
Aaron & Daniella QLD
Even though Aaron, 31, is a carpenter, he admits his Gold Coast home has proven too tough for him and wife Daniella, 38, to tackle on their own.
“It has a dysfunctional layout and security screens and bars everywhere,” he says.
“It’s like we live in a prison,” Daniella adds.
Troy & Bec NSW
Troy and Bec are hoping House Rules will be the key that sees them blend their families.
While divorced dad-of-one Troy, 46, has a house, it’s so run down, there’s no way Bec, 39, and her two kids can move in. The odds are against them, however. Neither has much reno experience.
“I’ve done fix-ups at the house, but nothing, really,” Troy admits.
