The sixth season of House of Cards has finally been given a premiere date! Netflix confirms the final season of the political drama will premiere on November 2nd 2018, specifically 6pm AEDT.
The shorter, eight-episode, season will centre on Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), who took over the Oval Office as President of the United States in the season five finale.
Season five ended with Frank resigning as President, leaving Claire as the 47th President of the United States. In the first trailer for the new season, it’s made clear that Frank has ‘died’ and it’s been five months since Claire was sworn in as President.
The trailer also introduces viewers to new cast members, brought in for the final season.
Critically acclaimed actors Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear joined the cast, along with Australian actor Cody Fern (American Horror Story). Series regulars Michael Kelly, Boris McGiver, Jayne Atkinson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and BPatricia Clarkson are all set to return.
Production on the final season of House of Cards was abruptly halted in October 2017, when Kevin Spacey (Frank Underwood) was hit with sexual assault allegations.
Two months later, in December, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos announced the series would continue without Spacey.
“We were really excited we could get to an agreement” to bring “closure of the show for fans,” said Sarandos at the time.

Despite keeping quiet on how the season will unfold, vice president of original series at Netflix, Cindy Holland, confirmed season six has a “fitting end.”
“We’re really proud of the show, and it’s a fitting end,” Cindy said at a Television Critics Association event last week.
“We always planned for season six to be the final season, and we are proud of the work of Robin,” she added.
The sixth and final season of House of Cards will premiere on Netflix on November 2nd, 2018.
