She walked away from her role on the Aussie soap in 2009 after her character lost her battle with cancer, but the actress has revealed she had second thoughts about going out that way.

Why?

Well, it ruled her out of making a return to Summer Bay.

While on The Morning Show this week, she spoke of her doubts to leave the show she’d been on for three years.

“I said to the producer, ‘I’m starting to feel a bit nervous’,” she told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

“He said, ‘We can change it. We can bring you back. We’ll find a way’. People have died before in the show and have returned.”

But despite her reservations, Jessica confessed it was the right time to go. She later landed roles on Underbelly, Dance Academy and Wonderland.

However, it’s the theatre stage where the 29-year-old feels most at home. Jessica is currently starring in Bell Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice at Sydney’s Opera House.

“Theatre is my home,” Tovey told Confidential. “That’s where I started.

“I love television and film and now feel home there but this is where most actors started and there is nothing like live theatre.”

“I was a big theatre nerd as a kid,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“I went to a performing arts high school and I really didn’t do any screen work until Home And Away. I was very theatre focused.

“I did lots of Shakespeare at high school and I just loved the language. I loved the drama of it,” she added.
