Heston Blumenthal reveals his MasterChef Australia ambitions

Could we be seeing a lot more of British superchef Heston Blumenthal on MasterChef Australia in the future?

The 51-year-old โ€จโ€“ whoโ€™s a guest judge this week โ€“ says heโ€™s open to becoming a permanent fixture on the show.

โ€œIโ€™d love to be transferred onto the show as a permanent guest,โ€ Heston says, adding he loves working on the show and spending time with judges Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris.

โ€œWeโ€™ve spent week or two-week blocks together and weโ€™ve grown together,โ€ he explains. โ€œThereโ€™s camaraderie on set โ€“ itโ€™s like family.โ€

As for the contestants, Heston, who travelled with them to rural Australia for a challenge this season, says theyโ€™re better than ever.

โ€œYou think the level of contestants canโ€™t get any higher, but I canโ€™t believe the standard [this season],โ€ he reveals. โ€œItโ€™s gone up so much.โ€

Hestonโ€™s girlfriend, Stephanie Gouveia, joined him โ€จon the MasterChef road trip.

โ€œShe loved it and sheโ€™s got a good connection with โ€จthe crew,โ€ he adds.

A divorced father-of-three, Heston laughs when asked if he and Stephanie would consider getting married in the future.

โ€œIโ€™ve never been happier in my โ€จlife,โ€ he says, adding he hopes to โ€จbring his children โ€“ Jack, 24, Jessie, 21, and Joy, 19 โ€“ with him next time heโ€™s down under.

โ€œTheyโ€™ve heard enough about it from their dad and theyโ€™ve been big fans of MasterChef Australia since season one,โ€ Heston says.

โ€œThey havenโ€™t been able to get time to come out, but next year Iโ€™ll plan โ€จit so they can come along.โ€
